BIOGRAPHY
Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama is Botswana politician who served as President of Botswana since April 2008 to replace President Festus Mogae. Born on February 27, 1953 as the first son of Sir Seretse Khama, one of the prominent leaders of the independence and served as President of Botswana period 1966-1980, in Chertsey, Surrey, at a time when his father was exiled to England because of the opposition of the colonial and apartheid regime in South Africa as a result of his marriage to a white woman. He was given the name of Seretse Khama Ian Khama as his father to continue the legacy of their history but better known by the name of Ian Khama to distinguish between himself and his father.

Ian Khama get an education and qualification of the pilot when he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the British Army training academy where the soldiers they are. On December 16, 1997 when he served as Commander of the Air Force Botswana, Ian announced that he would resign from his position as of March 31, 1998. Since that date is the same date that President Quett Masire is planning to retire, that provoke political speculation about Ian . In April 1, 1998, when Vice President Festus Mogae replace Quett Masire as President, Ian was appointed as the new Vice President. But because he did not have a seat in the National Assembly, then he can not direct it took office. New on the 13th of July, after winning an abundant number of votes (2,986 votes against 86 votes for his opponent) in Serowe North, Ian took the oath as Vice President.

Ian was elected as Chairman of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) on July 22, 2003 at party meetings, beating the previous chairman, Ponatshego Kedikilwe by a vote of 512 against 219 votes for Ponatshego. His victory is regarded as a factor determining the cause Ian akhrnya can replace Festus as president.

When Festus Mogae's resignation, as he had said Earlier, on April 1, 2008 Seretse Khama Ian Khama automatically succeeded him as President of Botswana. At the swearing in Gaborone, Ian said there will be continuity in the wisdom and no radical changes that will occur. Although he also said that "a change in leadership style and special emphasis on some issues" may occur and that he was committed to democracy. Ian immediately undertake a massive reshuffle and appointed Mompati Merafe, who previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, to be Vice President. After becoming president, Ian relinquish his post as chairman of the BDP party and was replaced by Daniel Kwelagobe.

During his tenure as president, Ian Khama get recognition from within and outside the country because it shows their willingness to be an active leader and not a passive observer. He also showed that he was willing to take actions that although unpopular, but necessary for the good of his country. From an economic perspective, Ian is a vocal supporter for the release of Botswana from dependence on diamonds and diversify the economy, especially to agriculture and tourism. Botswana government under Ian hope not only cutting and polishing factory diamonds in Botswana, but also factories and jewelers following securities firms, banks, insurance and traning facilities that will make Botswana a center diamond. Ian Khama again served as President of Botswana the fourth after his party won 45 of 57 seats in parliament in the election on October 16, 2009.
