Biography of Alan Greenspan

Alan Greenspan became famous because of its economic influence as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve between 1987 and 2006. Currently he is an advisor and lecturer, who works through his company Greenspan Associates LLC. During his time on the Board of Governors, Greenspan made a choice with regard to US interest rates, inflation and other economic issues that directly affected the housing market and US economy changed.

Alan Greenspan was born on March 6, 1926 in New York City from Hungarian Jewish couples. Although later he studied Economics at New York University, initially Greenspan studied clarinet at Julliard School in 1943-1944. Alan also played saxophone and regularly played in a jazz band.

After graduating from NYU with a BS Economics, 1948, Greenspan continued to study economics and received his MA in Economics two years later. Although he intends to pursue higher education in the same field from Columbia University, he never completed the requirements for a Ph.D.

Between 1948 and 1953, Alan Greenspan worked at The Conference Board, a New York think tank, as an economic analyst. With a background in business and industry and work in think -tank, Greenspan became chairman and president of Townsend-Greenspan & Co. He helps run economic consulting firm for 33 years, leaving only once between 1974 and 1977 to serve in President Ford as Chairman of the Board of Economic Advisors.

Ten years after leaving the position at Townsend-Greenspan & Co., Greenspan was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve by Ronald Regan in 1987. Between the time at Townsend-Greenspan and his position at the Federal Reserve, Greenspan served as a director in various companies including Automatic Data Processing, Inc., General Foods Inc., JP Morgan & Co., the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA)), Mobile Corporation, The Pittston Company, and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York. He was married twice, the first was in 1952 by Joan Mitchell, who only lasted for one year, and married again with Andrea Mitchell in 1997.

Greenspan served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve for almost twenty years that ended in January, 2006. During his time as chairman he always gets good apreiasiasi to his work during the current tough economy, including the stock market crash and recession resulting from late 1980 -an and the early years of the 21st century. Critics accuse Alan Greenspan stepped over the traditional boundaries of the Federal economic interests and blamed him for policies that ultimately led to the housing bubble in 2006 (which has created the US subprime crisis).

Alana is renowned for providing technical speech confusing, and only a few people can understand. He is often blamed for the changes in the stock market because of speech. Because of his record five times chairman, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor for US civilians. After the term expires at the end of January 2006, Greenspan started his business in the field of consulting and teaching with his company Greenspan Associates LLC. He also wrote a memoir, "The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World", which was published at the end of September 2007.
