Antonia Coello Novello is a physician and public health administrator of Puerto Rico. He was a vice admiral in the Public Health Service, who served as Sergeant General of the fourteenth United States from 1990 to 1993.

Novello was the first woman and the first Hispanic to serve as Surgeon General. Novello served as Health Commissioner of the United States in the period 1999 to 2006. Novello was born on August 23, 1944 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Novello's father died when he was 8 years old by leaving her mother, a school teacher, to raise Novello and his brother.

Novello suffered severe pain in his colon until he was 18 years old, who finally cured by surgery. Novello is married to former US Navy surgeon and psychiatrist, Joseph R. Novello. She is the sister-in-law Saturday Night Live alumnus Don Novello, the creator of the character Father Guido Sarducci persona.

Novello completed medical school in Puerto Rico and undergo a period of training as a pediatrician in Michigan. In 1986, Novello was appointed as deputy health of children where he put a lot of attention to children suffering from AIDS. At tahun1990, Novello was appointed as Surgeon General, Chief Public Health Service, by President George W. Bush. As Chief Public Health Service, Novello prioritize the health of women, children and minorities as a national priority.

Novello received several awards for his contribution to the improvement of the health of American society, including James Smithson Medal in 2002 and in 2006, he became one of the finalists of the award-Hispanic Business magazine Woman of the Year. Currently Novello served as head of the New York City Department of Health, one of the largest public events agencies in the United States.
